Criteria for Orbital Airways pilots

  1. Own a copy of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 or 2024

  2. Be at least 18 years of age and at time of registration and abide by all laws governing online activity.

  3. Maintain a working e-mail address on file with Orbital Airways at all times.

  4. Have access to an internet connection where they intend to do their flying.

  5. Be willing to download and use the Pegasus ACARS app for tracking and recording their flights.

  6. Members are welcome to participate in other virtual airlines, but flights must be flown separately (you cannot double-log flights for Orbital Airways and another airline simultaneously).

  7. Agree to our Code of Conduct and operating policies.

Frequently Asked

  • We do have a Direct Entry program for existing pilots. Starting over is rough, and we aim to alleviate that challenge.

    Pilots with other virtual airline experience may utilize their logged hours to bypass the training, initial operating experience, and at least one early rank, as described below:

    • Transfer from another vAMSYS airline:
      Up to 350 hours and 25,000 points, awarding the max rank of Captain.

    • Transfer from an external virtual airline, with proof of logged hours:
      Up to 100 hours, awarding 8,000 points and the max rank of First Officer.

  • Unfortunately not. While 13 is the legal minimum in some jurisdictions, Orbital Airways requires all pilots be 18 years of age or older, with no exceptions. We do not accept parental consent in lieu of the age requirement.

  • Not at all. vAMSYS allows you to select which airline you’re flying for each time you sign in.

    We also allow easy rank transfers (see above) from other vAMSYS airlines.

  • Orbital Airways requires new pilots to fly two flights within their first 30 days of joining.

    After that, we only require one flight per 90 days to remain on the roster.

    Being dropped from our roster is not a punishment. Pilots are welcome to rejoin and resume.

  • Absolutely!

    We keep our roster current by dropping pilots who haven’t flown in a while, but do so without prejudice.

    Pilots are welcome to join again and resume where they left off.

  • While we absolutely encourage pilots to fly on a live ATC network such as VATSIM, PilotEdge, or IVAO, it is not required.

    Pilots may elect to use offline or AI-powered ATC solutions as well, like BeyondATC or SayIntentions.

  • Currently, no. This is something we would love to have in the future and are looking into it.

    This functionality would, for example, send pilot loadsheets and gate assignments to pilots via the aircraft ACARS.

  • X-Plane is an amazing simulator! We don’t outright reject pilots for flying on X-Plane. However, our airline is based around MSFS. Aircraft choices and liveries are only available for MSFS.

    If you choose to fly X-Plane, please ensure you are flying the correct type of aircraft (to the letter).
